Clerical staff
The clerical team keeps the clinic organized. They will help prepare for your first visit and book any follow-up appointments you need.
They also work closely with our volunteers to help make sure the clinic day runs smoothly. This ensures that you receive special care and attention while at the clinic.

Genetic counsellors
Some types of genes greatly increase the risk of developing cancer. If you have a significant family history of cancer, our genetic counsellors can help you find out if you have those genes.
Genetic counsellors can also help if you are at higher risk for cancer because of genetics. They can explore options to reduce your risk of developing cancer and of passing on the gene.
Indigenous patient navigator
If you are First Nations, Inuit or Métis and you have cancer, or are being screened for cancer, the Indigenous patient navigator can help answer your questions. They can tell you what to expect during upcoming appointments and tests and introduce you to your health-care providers.
The Indigenous patient navigator can also help you find more information about cancer and treatment. They can connect you with spiritual support and community resources and help with applications for financial and transportation services.
Learners
Mount Sinai Hospital is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto. You may see medical students, residents or other medical trainees as part of your care.
Medication reimbursement specialists
Your treatment plan may include supportive care or cancer medication that is not funded by the government. Some treatments may be only partially covered by private drug plans.
A medication reimbursement specialist (MRS) can help you navigate the complex drug-support system. This system includes government, private insurance payers and drug companies.
For example, a MRS can help you access patient-support programs. These programs can offer financial assistance, compassionate (free) drugs or a bridging drug supply while you wait for public or private coverage.
The MRS also helps patients who do not have any drug coverage by providing information on the Trillium Drug Program and helping with the application form.
Oncology nurses
Oncology nurses have specialized training in providing cancer care. They give you chemotherapy and other medication and record your health history. They also help you manage any side effects you may experience from cancer treatment.
Oncology social workers
Oncology social workers are trained to support patients and their families through their cancer experiences. They help navigate practical supports such as finances and transportation, make referrals to community resources and offer emotional support and counselling.
Pharmacists
Pharmacists help patients understand and manage their medication. Learn more about our pharmacy team.
Volunteers
Volunteers help with a range of tasks in the clinic. For example, they provide snacks during a patient’s treatment visit, help patients report their symptoms on the Your Symptoms Matter tablets and refill our education materials.
