Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine Clinic
We diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions of the mouth.
What we do
Our oral pathologists are dental specialists in diseases affecting the mouth and its connected areas.
Our team diagnoses and treats a range of conditions of the mouth, including diseases of the mouth lining, benign (non-cancerous) growths and pre-cancerous conditions.
What to expect
Before your first appointment, we may ask you to complete a patient health questionnaire to help us understand your medical history and needs. Please bring your completed questionnaire with you to your first appointment.
At your first appointment, we will talk to you about your medical history, symptoms and concerns. An oral pathologist may examine your mouth. We may also take X-rays as part of your visit, or recommend another test or procedure, such as a biopsy.
We will then work with you to decide on a care plan that is specific to your needs. Your treatment plan may include any of the following:
- Regular follow-up visits at our clinic for monitoring
- Medication
- Minor surgery to remove diseased tissue
Please note we are a teaching hospital, so you may see medical students, residents or other medical trainees as part of your care. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated health-care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.
Consultation fees and biopsy costs are covered by OHIP. Some procedures, such as dental X-rays, are not covered by OHIP. You will need to pay for these services separately. See our dentistry fees for more information.
What to bring
- Health (OHIP) card or valid health care coverage
- Your hospital card
- A list of your medications
- Your completed patient health questionnaire, if applicable
- A method of payment (Visa, MasterCard, Interac or cash) for dental fees following your appointment
