Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) and Facial Pain Clinic
We manage pain of the jaw joints and other types of chronic facial pain.
What we do
Our specialists focus on the diagnosis and treatment of the joints that connect your lower jaw to your skull.
Problems with these joints can cause conditions that lead to chronic pain. Our care is evidence-based and translates the most current research into care for TMD conditions.
What to expect
Before your first appointment, we may ask you to complete a patient health questionnaire to help us understand your medical history and needs. Please bring your completed questionnaire with you to your first appointment.
At your first appointment, we will talk to you about your symptoms and concerns. A clinician may examine your jaw, face, and neck. We may also take X-rays as part of your visit or refer you to other specialists, if needed.
We will then work with you to decide on a care plan specific to your needs. Your treatment may include any of the following:
- Medication
- Oral appliances
- Physiotherapy
- Therapeutic injections
- Surgery
Please note we are a teaching hospital, so you may see medical students, residents or other medical trainees as part of your care. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated health-care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.
