Geriatric Psychiatry Program
We provide assessment and treatment services for people 65 years and older who need mental health support.
What we do
Our Geriatric Psychiatry team provides psychiatry consultation and time-limited treatment to adults 65 years or older who are experiencing issues with their mental health.
We treat illnesses such as dementia, anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder. We also support family members and other care partners providing care for these patients.
What to expect
At your first appointment, a clinician will ask about your current symptoms, feelings, experiences, treatment history and the impact of these on your daily life.
Our clinician will work with you to decide on a care plan that is specific to your needs. Your care plan may include any of the following:
- Medication options
- Psycho-social interventions
- Individual or group therapies
- Recommendations for educational tools and self-help resources
Our Geriatric Psychiatry team will update your referring physician about your care plan. We value and encourage coordination of care with family physicians, family members and other health-care partners
Please note we are a teaching hospital, so you may see medical students, residents or other medical trainees as part of your care team. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated health-care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.
What to bring
- Health (OHIP) card or valid health-care coverage
- A list of your current medications
- A support person, if desired
- Your glasses and/or hearing aids, if you usually use them
How to access our services
