Urogynaecology Clinic
We treat patients with pelvic floor disorders affecting the vagina, bladder, anus and rectum.
What we do
Our urogynaecologists specialize in pelvic floor disorders which include disorders of the vagina, bladder, anus and rectum.
We treat patients with symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction including the following:
- Loss of bladder control
- Loss of bowel control
- Pelvic organ prolapse, which happens when your bladder, uterus, upper vagina or rectum shifts out of its normal place and into the wall of your vagina
- Pelvic pain
What to expect
Please come to your first appointment with a comfortably full bladder to help with certain tests.
When you arrive at the clinic, our urogynaecology team may ask you to complete a medical questionnaire to help us understand your medical history and symptoms.
At your appointment a urogynaecologist will review your medical history and symptoms, and perform a physical exam that may include a pelvic exam.
The urogynaecologist may also recommend a test that measures how well your bladder works or a cystoscopy that looks at the inside of your bladder. We may perform those tests during your appointment.
We will then work with you to decide on a care plan that is specific to your needs. Your treatment may include any of the following:
- Lifestyle changes such as bladder training or weight management
- Pelvic physiotherapy exercises to strengthen the muscles in your pelvic floor
- Pessary care, in which a device is placed in the vagina to provide support to the bladder
- Medications to help with bladder control, bladder infections or pelvic pain
- Procedures such as Botox injections to relieve pelvic pain
- Minimally-invasive surgery to correct pelvic organ prolapse
Follow-up appointments may be recommended to help us monitor your condition during treatment.
Please note we are a teaching hospital, so you may see a medical students, residents, fellows or other medical trainees as part of your care. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.
