Mature Women’s Health Research

We close the gaps in women’s health through inclusive, patient-centred research.

Understanding women’s health at every stage

Research at the Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health is committed to improving the health and well-being of women as they age. We study how health conditions appear, progress and affect mature women and use those findings to improve care.

For too long, mature women have been left out of the research that shapes their care. We’re here to change that and ensure they are included in all future research.

Strategic narrative

The Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health seeks to create a world where mature women are included in all health research. We inspire, support and lead patient-centred research through high-impact, investigator-led research.

Together, we:

  • Drive growth, exploration and learning to shape the future of health research
  • Foster multidisciplinary collaboration within and beyond Sinai Health, nationally and internationally
  • Uphold research best practices that are ethical, rigorous and evidence-based
  • Promote equitable, inclusive and patient-oriented research practices to reduce health disparities and close the gaps in mature women’s health

Our research drivers

Our path to impact is defined by three areas. Together, they reflect our commitment to advancing inclusive research, building a collaborative environment to sustain it and ensuring our discoveries reach the women, clinicians and policymakers who need them most.

Accordion Items

Mature women’s health research must reflect their real and diverse experiences. We lead interdisciplinary research to advance understanding of the conditions that affect mature women, conduct patient-oriented research co-designed with the community, and guide the inclusion of sex-, age- and gender-based analysis across all health research.

We create an environment that actively supports multidisciplinary research through mentorship and talent development. We strengthen existing partnerships and cultivate new ones to build a research community ready for the future.

We prioritize patient-informed knowledge mobilization, advocate for the inclusion of mature women in all research and work to position Sinai Health as a leading source of knowledge for clinicians, policymakers and the public.

Sex and Gender+ Research Support Service

The Sex and Gender+ Research Support Service is a knowledge translation and capacity-building initiative that advances the integration of an intersectional sex and gender lens (sex- and gender-based analysis, or SGBA+) in health research in Ontario and beyond.

Funded by the Ontario SPOR (Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research) SUPPORT Unit, we offer principal investigators, patient partners and other team members tailored support to integrate sex, gender and other determinants of health into their studies – from the initial research question through to knowledge translation and dissemination. We also develop presentations and educational materials to strengthen research quality through SGBA+, and produce publications for academic and general audiences.
