Redevelopment project office staff and EllisDon working together

Renew Sinai Phase 3A is the largest capital redevelopment project in Mount Sinai Hospital’s history that will make our hospital an even better place to receive and deliver care. To name a few of the ways we are building for the future, this groundbreaking initiative will lead to an expansion of the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre to nearly twice its size, and 18 state-of-the-art operating rooms.

Making this vision come to life is no small feat. A project of this magnitude takes years of planning, coordination and collaboration from a number of planners, project managers and contractors. Our dedicated internal teams, in concert with our construction and other external partners, are leading the way to make Renew Sinai Phase 3A a success.

Internal Collaboration

This project touches virtually all areas of the hospital. Our Redevelopment Project Office and Operational Readiness teams work closely with all internal stakeholders, supporting them from the planning stage to the day when they will be delivering care in their brand new spaces.

With more than 140 construction projects required as part of Phase 3A, our internal Redevelopment Project Office is the architect behind navigating all of the interdependencies and designing a construction timeline aimed at achieving the best possible experience for staff, patients and visitors.

Meanwhile, the Operational Readiness team focuses on change management. This team prepares new processes and tools, and determines interdependencies and impacts throughout Sinai Health System to enhance the overall experience of patients, families, staff, physicians and volunteers. In addition, they are key players in recognizing and mitigating the potential risks, impacts and changes that may affect clinical processes, efficiencies and experiences.

External Partnerships

EllisDon (our construction partner) and Infrastructure Ontario (the provincial agency responsible for public infrastructure) continue to support us throughout our redevelopment journey.

EllisDon is a world-leading construction and building services company that is credited for building the Rogers Centre and transforming the Art Gallery of Ontario. The company has also built countless hospital buildings both near and far, including SickKids’ Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning. Infrastructure Ontario works with us, providing oversight to ensure the project stays on schedule and on budget, the process is fair and transparent and that there is continued collaboration and support between all internal and external stakeholders.
