Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
Our virtual group program teaches patients how to use mindfulness practices to cope with pain.
What we do
Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) is a meditation therapy that can lessen stress and help manage pain.
What to expect
Our Pain Management team offers a MBSR group program that meets online once a week for nine weeks.
Each weekly meeting is three-hours long and is facilitated by a physician and nurse practitioner who are trained in MBSR for pain management. The program also includes one virtual six-hour retreat.
Meetings include an introduction to the concepts of mindfulness and stress management as well as guided meditation and group discussions.
We also offer a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) pain management group program at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital. Many pain patients benefit from participating in both the CBT and MBSR programs.
Patients who graduate from any MBSR program for pain are welcome to join an ongoing monthly meditation group at Hennick Bridgepoint. Graduates will be added to the mailing list for that group.
