Antimicrobial Stewardship
We help health-care providers get patients the right antibiotics.
Antimicrobial Stewardship provides guidance on the best practices for prescribing antibiotics and antifungals at Sinai Health.
Our team of infectious disease physicians and pharmacists works with care providers across Sinai Health to:
- Reduce the unnecessary use of antibiotics and antifungals
- Give patients the optimal type and dose of antibiotics and antifungals
- Improve patient health and safety
We support clinicians in providing the most effective and appropriate antimicrobial therapy for patients with infections. Through quality-informed and evidence-based interventions, expertise in behaviour change and an empathetic approach to clinical decision-making, we strive to optimize antimicrobial use for every patient.
Our commitment is to minimize the unintended impacts of antimicrobials on the microbiome at both the individual and population level. By doing so, we help reduce the risk of antimicrobial resistance, adverse drug events, and infections such as Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile).
