Endocrine Oncology and Thyroid Clinic
Learn more about how we diagnose and treat patients with intermediate or high-risk thyroid cancer.
What we do
Our endocrinologists treat patients with intermediate or high-risk thyroid cancer. These cancers may spread or may already have spread beyond the thyroid.
What to expect
Our care team will ask you to complete a patient questionnaire before your initial appointment. We may also recommend blood work, an ultrasound of the neck or other tests before your visit.
Our endocrinologist will review your test results and diagnostic images, ask about your medical history and discuss your diagnosis.
We work with you to develop a care plan specific to your needs. Your treatment options may include:
- Surgery
- Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) suppressive therapy
- Radioactive iodine therapy
- External-beam radiation
- Systemic therapy or other medications
Before you leave, please make a follow-up appointment and ensure you have the requisitions and medications you need. Patients often need follow-up blood work or imaging, such as ultrasounds, computed tomography (CT) scans or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans.
Please note that we are a teaching hospital, so you may see medical students, residents or other medical trainees as part of your care. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated health-care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.
What to bring
- Health (OHIP) card or valid health-care coverage
- Your hospital card
- A list of your current medications and supplements
- A compact disc with a copy of any CT scans, MRI scans or ultrasounds done outside Mount Sinai or University Health Network
- A support person, if desired
