Diabetes and Endocrinology in Pregnancy
We specialize in caring for pregnant people with pre-existing type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as well as those with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).
What we do
It is important for those with diabetes or other endocrine conditions to receive close monitoring during pregnancy.
Our endocrinologists provide care to people with the following conditions who are giving birth at Mount Sinai Hospital:
- Type 1 or type 2 diabetes
- Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)
- Thyroid conditions
What to expect
Type 1 or type 2 diabetes
At your first appointment, your endocrinologist will go over your medical records and blood glucose data. We will then discuss options for managing your diabetes during your pregnancy.
As part of your care plan, we may recommend changes to your lifestyle, diet or current medication you are taking.
You will also meet with certified diabetes educators (CDE). They can help you learn more about how food affects your diabetes and how to adjust your insulin.
