Palliative Care

We provide relief from the symptoms, pain and stress that come with a life-limiting illness.

Palliative care is a specialized area of medicine that focuses on supporting patients and caregivers who are living with a serious, life-limiting illness.

People often think of palliative care as being end-of-life care, but it is much more than that.

Palliative care focuses on helping people live with comfort and dignity through every stage of serious illness. It does this by providing relief from the symptoms, pain and stress that come with a life-limiting illness.

Our specialists work closely with patients and caregivers so their care will reflect their unique needs, values and hopes.

At Sinai Health, we work together as one Palliative Care team to care for patients, families and caregivers through four different programs. We offer:

  • Palliative care in the home
  • A palliative care unit at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital
  • Clinic-based palliative care at Mount Sinai Hospital
  • In-hospital palliative care for patients receiving treatment at Mount Sinai

Patients may receive care in one or more of our programs through the course of their illness, and we can help patients move to the setting that is best for them.

Our team works closely with other health-care teams in our hospitals and in the community.

All of our Palliative Care programs are continuously engaged in cutting-edge research to advance the field of palliative care and further serve our patients.

We are fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and dedicated to training future leaders in palliative care.
