Anesthesia assistants (AAs) provide care to patients in the Operating Room, Endoscopy, Labour and Delivery, Emergency Department and Ophthalmology.

They also provide anesthesia care at the Kensington Eye Institute (KEI). AAs work as part of a collaborative care model with KEI and the University Health Network (UHN). 

AAs are dedicated members of the Respiratory Therapy Department at Mount Sinai and also work closely with the Anesthesia Department.

At Mount Sinai, AAs: 

  • Work across several patient care programs within the hospital and at KEI

Registered dietitians are important members of our health-care teams at Sinai Health. Dietitians work across all areas of care to help patients meet their nutritional needs. 

At Mount Sinai, our dietitians work across various inpatient and outpatient programs. These programs include the Leadership Sinai Centre for Diabetes, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and our Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) program, among others.

At Hennick Bridgepoint, dietitians work across all inpatient units to provide nutritional care to every population.

Registered dietitians at Sinai Health:

  • Work in a variety of both inpatient and outpatient care services
  • Work in a fast-paced setting with interprofessional teams
  • Gain experience in specialized areas of medical nutrition therapy, such as enteral and parenteral nutrition and nutrition counselling

Occupational therapists (OTs) and occupational therapy and physiotherapy assistants (OTAs/PTAs) make a difference at Sinai Health. They help patients with physical and functional recovery and regaining independence after an injury, surgery, prolonged hospital stay or medical event like a stroke.

At Mount Sinai, OTs are key members of our Rehabilitation Department and have opportunities to work across many areas of clinical care. These areas include Psychiatry, General Internal Medicine, Surgery, the Emergency Department, the Wasser Pain Management Clinic and the Neonatal Follow-up Clinic.

At Hennick Bridgepoint, OTs work with patients in both the Rehabilitation and Complex Continuing Care programs. OTs help these patients adapt to life after injury and illness.

Our Pharmacy services play an essential role in supporting patient care through the distribution and oversight of patient medication.

Our pharmacists and pharmacy technicians provide safe, patient-oriented care and customer service.

Physiotherapists (PTs) and occupational therapy and physiotherapy assistants (OTAs/PTAs) are dedicated members of our health-care teams. They help patients maximize their physical function, strength and activity tolerance after an injury, surgery, prolonged hospital stay and/or medical event like a stroke. 

At Mount Sinai, PTs are key members of our Rehabilitation Department and have opportunities to work across many areas of care. These areas include the ICU, the Emergency Department, General Internal Medicine, Orthopaedics, NICU and the Neonatal Follow-up Clinic. 

We also have Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners (APPs) who provide expert patient care on our Orthopaedic and Rheumatology teams. 

At Hennick Bridgepoint, PTs work with patients in both Rehabilitation and Complex Continuing Care programs. These programs include the Stroke, Acquired Brain Injury, Orthopaedic Rehab, Medical Rehab and Palliative Care units.

Recreation therapists use functional intervention, education and recreation activities to help our rehabilitation patients improve or maintain their physical, cognitive, emotional and social function. 

At Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital, recreation therapists and recreational therapy assistants work with rehabilitation patients. They provide them a better quality of life and optimal health through meaningful participation in recreation and leisure.

Respiratory therapists (RTs) are dedicated members of the cross-site Respiratory Therapy Department.  RTs guide the respiratory care of our patients, including managing patient airways and mechanical ventilation across our patient programs. 

At Mount Sinai, RTs work in a variety of inpatient programs including the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Operating Room, Labour and Delivery, and Emergency Department. In addition, they oversee our ambulatory Pulmonary Function Test Clinic and Asthma, Smoking Cessation and COPD program. 

At Hennick Bridgepoint, RTs work across our Complex Care, Rehabilitation and Palliative Care units.

RTs at Sinai Health:

  • Work across inpatient and outpatient programs within the hospital
  • Work as key members of an interprofessional emergency response team (e.g. Code Blue, Code Pink, Code Omega)

Sinai Health offers social workers a fast-paced, exciting working environment with opportunities to participate in professional development, teaching and research.

Our social workers provide practical, emotional and social support to patients who are admitted to hospital as well as in some outpatient areas.

Social workers help patients throughout their care in several ways, including:

  • Connecting patients with community resources and supports
  • Providing patients with referral information about available financial programs
  • Providing emotional support and counselling for patients and families 
  • Running support groups in some clinical areas
  • Discharge planning
  • Fostering communication between the patient, family and other members of the care team

At Mount Sinai, social workers report directly to the Department of Social Work. They work collaboratively and provide coverage to various locations throughout the hospital.

All Sinai Health social workers are masters-prepared and belong to the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) evaluate and treat a variety of communication and swallowing disorders.

At Mount Sinai, SLPs work in inpatient and outpatient areas across the hospital. These areas include the Neonatal Follow-up Clinic, Otolaryngology, General Internal Medicine and Intensive Care Unit.

SLPs play a large role assessing both swallowing difficulties and communication disorders. This includes conducting videofluoroscopy swallowing studies to help make decisions about a patient’s ability to swallow safely.

At Hennick Bridgepoint, SLPs work closely with communicative disorders assistants (CDAs) to provide therapy to a wide range of patients.
