Respiratory Therapy
The highly trained respiratory therapists at Mount Sinai Hospital assess, monitor and care for patients with lung conditions or breathing problems.
Respiratory therapists are regulated health professionals who work as part of an interprofessional team across the hospital, including in the following areas:
- Intensive care unit (ICU)
- Coronary care unit (CCU)
- Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
- Operating rooms
- Emergency department
- Pulmonary Function Lab
Our respiratory therapy team collaborates with all clinical teams in the hospital including physicians, nurses, other health disciplines and support services. Respiratory therapists provide breathing and airway support using medication, mechanical interventions and specialty gases.
We also perform diagnostic tests and manage therapeutic treatments in the hospital and in our outpatient clinics.
In addition to providing clinical services, our department supports patients and other health-care professionals through education and research.
