Abstract

As health-care institutions strive for more patient-centred and equitable care, the integration of standardized equity indicators into hospital performance metrics is gaining more discussion. This presentation explores the critical role of equity-focused measures in health system reporting, emphasizing their necessity for identifying and addressing disparities in care access and outcomes. We will delve into the methodology and real-world implementation of a hospital-based metric designed to quantify and monitor inequities in planned and outpatient services. By examining practical applications, challenges, and early insights, we will highlight how these metrics can inform decision-making and drive system-wide improvements. Additionally, we will engage in a critical discussion on the ethical tensions that arise when translating equity data into meaningful action, including the balance between accountability and unintended consequences.
