Captured Caring: Inspiring Moments for May 2026
Every day our people at Sinai Health are doing extraordinary things. Captured Caring is a series featuring submissions from our people to provide you with inspiration and encouragement as we care for patients and each other.
This month Pathology and Laboratory Medicine completed renovations — linked to Sinai Health’s Operating Plan — to expand Surgical Pathology. These renovations more than doubled this area of the lab's capacity, enhancing patient care. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on April 20 to celebrate this milestone and thank all stakeholders involved, especially Dr. Witterick and the executive team, Endoscopy, ICU, Medical Imaging, the Operating Room teams and Capital Redevelopment. The Surgical Pathology team is so happy to be in the improved space.

I’m delighted to share that we have successfully resumed meal preparation for WoodGreen Community Services and The Neighbourhood Group’s Meals on Wheels program. Meals on Wheels plays a vital role in supporting vulnerable individuals by providing reliable access to nutritious food, helping them maintain independence at home.
Supporting this program is a meaningful extension of our mission beyond our hospital walls, strengthening our connection to the community and addressing broader determinants of health. More than 220 delicious meals are being delivered by volunteers as I type.
Our community volunteers are delighted to be back, and I am confident that the Meals on Wheels clients will be as well. A sincere thank you to our Food Services team! They take great pride in being part of an initiative that delivers comfort, dignity, and essential support to members of our community. We appreciate the effort and time spent to relaunch this program.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the Therapeutic Recreation team at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital hosted The Garden Club of Toronto for a gardening workshop. Patients learned about the mental health benefits of gardening — and about growing zinnias from seeds. Once sprouted, the flowers the patients planted will be transplanted into the therapy garden to be enjoyed by patients and families all summer long.

What does health and safety look like at Sinai Health? In recognition of Occupational Safety and Health Week and Canadian Mental Health Week, our people across Mount Sinai and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospitals answered that question together at our annual Health and Safety Day booths.
Our people shared pledges to take breaks, report incidents, check in with colleagues and build healthier routines. They participated in activities and quizzes, with many winning small prizes and enjoying treats as a thank-you for their everyday actions that support safety at Sinai Health.
Thank you to the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees, Hennick Bridgepoint After-Hours Clinical Manager and the Occupational Health and Safety team for making this event possible.
