PYNK: Program for Young Women with Breast Cancer
Learn more about how we support women under 40 who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
What we do
The PYNK program, which was developed by Sunnybrook hospital, focuses on the unique needs of women under 40 with breast cancer.
While coping with a breast cancer diagnosis is challenging at any age, younger women often have unique concerns.
You may have questions about topics like:
- Dealing with body image issues
- Accessing fertility counselling and support
- Rapid genetic counselling and education
- Understanding how the diagnosis will affect current and new relationships
- Explaining the diagnosis and treatment to your children
- Managing work and treatment at the same time
- Finding the right resources and support
PYNK is led by Dr. Andrea Covelli and Dr. Christine Elser, along with a nurse navigator, social worker and a research assistant. This program has been designed with input from young breast cancer advisors.
What to expect
The PYNK program care team works with you and your oncologist to assess your individual needs and the needs of your family or support group. The care team can connect you to the specialists and resources you need.
