Sarcoma
Sarcoma is a type of cancer that starts in the bones or soft tissues. Soft tissues include muscles, blood vessels, lymph vessels, fat and nerves.
Our internationally recognized sarcoma program at Mount Sinai Hospital offers specialized care for patients with typical, rare and complex bone and soft tissue sarcomas, benign bone and soft tissue tumours.
As the largest multi-disciplinary sarcoma program in Canada, we are leaders in the diagnosis and treatment of sarcomas.
We are also one of the top sarcoma research centres in the world. Our researchers are dedicated to learning more about sarcoma and discovering and developing new and improved treatments for patients with soft tissue sarcomas and bone cancers.
What to expect
If you are referred to our Cancer program, we may offer you additional diagnostic testing. You will likely see a surgeon and/or a medical oncologist as part of your care.
Our care team will work with you to develop a care plan that is specific to your cancer. Care plans may include any combination of surgery, chemotherapy, systemic therapy or radiation.
Patients receiving systemic therapy, including chemotherapy, come to the Cancer Care Clinic for treatment.
The sarcoma program has access to cutting-edge technologies, new therapies, clinical trials and advanced surgical and reconstructive techniques.
Our care team can also help you access support services such as financial and spiritual supports as you navigate cancer treatment. We also offer special resources for families, adolescents and young adults.
