“Sinai Health was proudly represented on a global stage at the International Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in Health Care by a multidisciplinary team from Human Factors, Hospital Medicine, Information Services and the Science of Care Institute. The group shared innovative work that sparked meaningful conversations about embedding human factors into health system design and processes. Their work clearly showcased the positive impact of embedded Human Factors work in hospitals and the strength of cross-disciplinary partnership in advancing care. Congratulations and thank you to: Tabitha Chiu, Christopher Colvin, Angeli Figurado, Bisma Imtiaz, Sarah Jeffries, Dr. Rahul Joshi, Natasa Lazarevic, Tasha McFarland, Dr. Jordan Pelc and Paula Voorheis.”

"The Maximizing Aging Using Volunteer Engagement (MAUVE) program has been busy celebrating spring on units at both Hennick Bridgepoint and Mount Sinai Hospitals. Patients smiled and reminisced as they were visited by the spring bunny. Arts and crafts decorations were created to bring cheer and a pop of colour to patients’ rooms."

"Each spring on the Wednesday of the last full week of April, we applaud the work of secretaries, receptionists, executive administrative assistants and others on Administrative Professionals Day. This day serves as a reminder for us to acknowledge the plethora of duties these colleagues balance to keep our organizations functioning. We want to express our sincere gratitude to our administrative assistant, Lucy Degouveia for all that she does to support our team. Her hard work, professionalism, and positive attitude are greatly appreciated. We are grateful for all that you do!"

"April 1 was Oncology Nursing Day, a day to recognize their essential work. Oncology nurses have specialized training to provide care for patients who have cancer. These skilled professionals are key members of the care team at Sinai Health’s Chris Hugh Sharp Cancer Centre. They deliver treatment—including chemotherapy provided at the Cancer Care Clinic at Mount Sinai Hospital—and help patients manage treatment-related symptoms. Oncology nurses are advocates, educators and crucial supports for patients and families during their cancer journeys. At Sinai Health, in addition to providing exemplary care, oncology nurses are working to advance their field through education and research. Thank you oncology nurses for everything you do!"

“April marked Medical Laboratory Professionals Week. Did you know that Sinai Health’s team of Medical Laboratory Professionals performs over three million tests per year? Our dedicated laboratory teams are committed to quality and excellence in performing each of these tests. As 70 per cent of clinical decisions rely on laboratory results, we extend a very big thank you to everyone working across the many laboratory specialties. You play such a crucial role in patient diagnostics and treatment.”

“I would like to salute our amazing, awesome, Prenatal Tour Guide Volunteers in the Prenatal Education Program.

Emmeline, Bianca, Madeline, Tina, Victoria, Yagoda, and Zoe, have offered their services to expectant parents planning to give birth at Mount Sinai hospital.

Pregnancy and birth are an exciting time for families, but it can also be anxiety inducing. Having the opportunity to go and see the hospital space and the path their birth journey may take is invaluable for these families as is evidenced by the number of people that attend the tours.

The Prenatal Tour Guide volunteer team has contributed 225.42 hours from April 2024 through March 2025. That is a highly commendable feat!

It takes kindness, compassion and selflessness to serve in this role, and we have definitely witnessed these qualities in each and every one of these volunteers. A special thanks to Emmeline who has been with us from the beginning and has acted as a mentor to others; to Bianca for carving time out of her busy schedule to return back to the team; to Victoria, Zoe, Tina and Yagoda for ensuring they refer clients to the right person to answer questions when needed. Thanks also to Madeline who has only just started but is excited about her very first tour. If I could trap all that zeal, energy, generosity and altruism from all of these amazing ladies, in a bottle I would be rich. We are indebted to them for keeping this program going. They can be assured that it truly makes a positive difference in our clients’ birth experiences.”
