Captured Caring: Inspiring Moments from May 2025

Captured Caring is a series featuring submissions from our people to provide inspiration and encouragement as we care for patients and each other.
Recognizing Sinai Health’s Patient Care Assistants for Personal Support Workers’ (PSW) Day, May 19, 2025.

PSWs—known as Patient Care Assistants or PCAs at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital—play an integral role in the care we provide. Whether it be through our Central Staffing pool or those who are embedded into the care on the sixth and ninth floors, our PCAs may help escort a patient to an appointment, monitor someone who needs close observation or assist in the important activities of daily living. We value, respect and are grateful for the work that our PCAs do. They are important members of our team.

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) role at MSH has become instrumental to providing on-going care quality through the support they provide via constant observation. Their on-going presence at the bedside has tremendous value for our patients and our staff through the continuity and patient-centered focus of their role.

PCAs are key members of our Reactivation Care Centre team. They utilize their skills and knowledge to promote excellence in the fundamentals of care, assist patients to rehabilitate, and support our patients, families and teams every day. We’re so proud to work alongside this amazing group of professionals.

The Division of Cardiology recently completed renovations to the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) recovery bay and adjacent areas in April. The recovery bay now has increased capacity for admission and recovery of patients in the Cath Lab.
The additional recovery space is designed as an enclosed pod that can accommodate full isolation, is equipped for recovery and invasive or non-invasive monitoring. It includes data access and electrical connections for multiple channel physiologic monitoring. It also has capacity to perform transesophageal echocardiography, cardioversions, bedside procedures, interventions like exercise and experimental protocols.
We celebrated this important milestone by hosting a small ribbon cutting ceremony with our colleagues. There were many stakeholders engaged, walkthroughs and support for this renovation to succeed. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this achievement! A special thanks to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) team for accommodating and supporting the recovery of patients during the construction period. Finally, our sincerest thanks to the Cath Lab team for their full and continuous support and great energy. We are proud to work with such an outstanding team!

This year’s “Slips, Trips, and Falls” theme got amazing feedback from Sinai Health people. Your feedback through the surveys has been invaluable and we remain committed to making continuous improvements across all areas of safety. A special congrats to our survey gift card winners! Check your Sinai Health email for prize claim details. Thank you once again for your ongoing dedication to creating a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. No trips, no falls–just safety!
