Every day our people at Sinai Health are doing extraordinary things. Captured Caring is a series featuring submissions from our people to provide you with inspiration and encouragement as we care for patients and each other.

“Two long-standing volunteers, Marilyn Hahn and Suzanne Shuchat, who have 25 and 30 years of service respectively, celebrated their birthdays together, a tradition they have upheld for many years at Mount Sinai. At 86 and 96 years old, these dedicated volunteers and loyal friends continue to provide wayfinding support to patients and visitors every Wednesday afternoon at Mount Sinai Hospital.”

“A small but mighty team had the privilege of attending this year’s ANCC Magnet Conference, held in New Orleans during the week of Halloween. Representing Canada’s Magnet hospital, our delegation included direct care nurses from Labour and Delivery, Surgery, and General Internal Medicine, as well as leaders from Mental Health, Women’s and Infants’ Health, Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital, and Quality.

The team immersed themselves in gaining valuable insights into Magnet and Pathway designations, further reinforcing our commitment to excellence. We are Magnet, and we are proud!”

“On November 12, co-op students from 17 schools in the Greater Toronto Area had the opportunity to chat with Dr. Gary Newton, President and CEO of Sinai Health.

Dayoon Heo, a co-op student from St. Joseph's Catholic School, found it intriguing how the medical school application process has changed over time, along with the sacrifices necessary to gain admission. She also learned that nursing is a flexible profession, allowing movement between units, and discovered various hospital roles beyond physicians and nurses, such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, radiology technicians, lawyers, and environmental services.

Students were able to ask Dr. Newton questions regarding the challenges he faces as a CEO and in the health-care sector. Overall, it was a valuable experience.”

“Every year, Sinai Health participates in a fundraising campaign for United Way. On November 9, 39 of our staff members climbed 144 flights of the CN Tower, raising over $19,000 with donations still growing. The team ranked sixth among GTA hospital fundraisers. Proudly chanting ‘Sinai Health’ as the team climbed up, the day was filled with teamwork, high energy, and fun—showcasing our value of humanity.”
