Doors Open for the historic Don Jail, May 23-24
Image
This group of six original cells has been preserved in the historic Don Jail. The narrow cells were designed for one person but sometimes held as many as three people at a time.
Restored in 2013 as the Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital’s Administration Building, the historic Don Jail welcomed close to 3,000 people during last year’s event.
Doors Open Toronto Visitors are invited to take a self-guided tour of up to 30 minutes and learn about the site’s architectural and historic significance.
The historic Don Jail originally opened in 1864 and operated as a jail for more than 100 years. The restoration retained many original architectural elements, including stone and iron fixtures, flooring, and a few of the original cells. Read more about the history of the Don Jail.
